KDDI Launches AccelWaves Initiative with Palo Alto Networks SASE Gateway Partnership

WHAT HAPPENED
KDDI announced the AccelWaves initiative on September 29 and began offering SASE Gateway powered by Palo Alto Networks, integrating network, security, and managed operations into a unified service. The gateway combines Palo Alto Networks' Prisma SASE with KDDI's backbone through a direct interconnect called SP Interconnect, eliminating VPN and achieving 12 Gbps speeds.
WHO IS INVOLVED
KDDI partnered with Palo Alto Networks to launch the service, with executives from both companies including Palo Alto Networks CEO Arikli Hiroshi confirming the collaboration. The service initially targets KDDI's existing WVS 2 enterprise intranet customers, with expansion to large enterprises planned.
WHY IT MATTERS
Cyber attacks now break into systems and spread in an average of 29 minutes, and AI-driven traffic has become unpredictable, creating urgent security and network management challenges. KDDI targets 100 billion yen in annual revenue from the combined network and security business by fiscal year 2031, positioning unified SASE as critical infrastructure for the AI era.
