WHAT HAPPENED
Sonatype joined the Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group, a coalition addressing how new government regulations on software will affect open source communities. The group brings together industry companies, SMEs, research institutions, open source foundations, and maintainers to guide compliance efforts.
WHO IS INVOLVED
Sonatype is a member alongside Red Hat, Microsoft, Siemens, SAP, Ubuntu, Apache, Eclipse Foundation, and dozens of other technology organizations, open source projects, and foundations participating in the ORC WG.
WHY IT MATTERS
New regulatory requirements like the EU Cyber Resilience Act are reshaping how open source software must be developed and distributed. The working group helps the open source community meet these obligations while maintaining the ability to use open source components in software supply chains.
