Collibra acquired Munich-based trail ML on October 5 to automate AI governance. The acquisition adds agent-powered automation that continuously reviews AI systems against regulations and controls, maps compliance gaps, and can block agent actions that violate policy before they execute.
WHO IS INVOLVED
Collibra, a data governance platform company, bought trail ML, a Munich-based AI governance startup. Collibra CEO Felix Van de Maele stated the deal aims to ensure governance scales with autonomous AI agents without becoming a manual process.
WHY IT MATTERS
EU enforcement of AI regulations began in August 2024, raising demand for tools that translate compliance rules into working controls. Autonomous AI agents deployed at scale need continuous, runtime governance rather than quarterly reviews—shifting enterprise questions from whether AI can do a task to whether companies can prove it stayed within policy limits.
