Anchore and Chainguard Partner on STIG Compliance for Shell-less Container Images
Published 11 September 2026
WHAT HAPPENED
Anchore partnered with Chainguard to enable STIG compliance scanning on shell-less container images. The companies will host a live demo on September 24 showing STIG checks running on Chainguard images without requiring shell execution.
WHO IS INVOLVED
Anchore and Chainguard are collaborating to solve a compliance problem for Department of Defense programs pursuing Authority to Operate and vendors pursuing FedRAMP certification.
WHY IT MATTERS
Traditional STIG scanners require a shell to run checks, forcing organizations to choose between maintaining hardened images or running separate compliance workflows. This partnership eliminates that tradeoff by enabling compliance scanning on shell-less images without compromising security posture.
