Arqit announces strategic investment in Sirius to strengthen quantum-safe communications for defence and government
Published 20 October 2026
WHAT HAPPENED
Arqit Quantum announced a strategic investment in Sirius Computer, a provider of secure computing and networking solutions for defence and intelligence. The investment builds on an existing partnership that combines Sirius's secure networking technology with Arqit's Sovereign Key Platform and NetworkSecure adaptors to deliver Crux, a software-based connectivity platform. The companies were selected as part of a winning bidding consortium to provide secure networking services to NATO.
WHAT THE ACQUIRED COMPANY DOES
Sirius Computer develops secure computing and networking solutions for defence, intelligence and critical national infrastructure. Its flagship product Crux delivers lightweight, quantum-safe secure communications across mobile devices, computers and embedded systems. Sirius technologies support secure connectivity across distributed teams, autonomous platforms and deployed networks without requiring replacement of existing network infrastructure.
THE DEAL
Arqit announced the strategic investment amount was not disclosed in the announcement. The investment will support continued development of Crux and Sirius's software and hardware technologies, deeper integration with Arqit's encryption solutions, and creation of new joint products and services.
WHY IT MATTERS
Defence organisations must balance getting critical information to deployed personnel and platforms while keeping it from adversaries, a challenge that extends across allied nations with different technologies. Quantum-safe communications protect information whose sensitivity outlasts individual operations. The partnership enables secure communications to support cooperation between allies without adding complexity for personnel in the field, while protecting against current and future cyber threats.
HOW IT WORKS
Crux is a software-based connectivity platform designed to run on commercial devices and work alongside existing infrastructure. It protects sensitive communications across devices and networks for defence users operating in deployed environments and alongside allied forces. Applications include mobile devices, cloud and network systems, and autonomous platforms such as Uncrewed Autonomous Vehicles and their associated control systems.
