EC-Council Expands Technology Risk Capabilities Through Acquisition of Cyber Insurance Academy
Published 24 October 2026
WHAT HAPPENED
EC-Council acquired Cyber Insurance Academy on October 21, 2026. Cyber Insurance Academy will continue operating under its existing brand and leadership as an EC-Council Company. The acquisition extends EC-Council's capabilities into the insurance industry and positions it to address the intersection of technology risk and insurance underwriting.
WHAT THE ACQUIRED COMPANY DOES
Cyber Insurance Academy is the credentialing body for the cyber and AI insurance industries. It trains brokers, underwriters, claims professionals and risk managers through its flagship Certified Cyber Insurance Specialist designation. Its programs are accredited by CII, ANZIIF, RIBO and NIBA, with continuing education approval in more than 45 U.S. states. Under EC-Council, the Academy will expand beyond cyber insurance into AI risk, emerging technology risk and role-based technology education.
WHY IT MATTERS
Technology is now embedded across most enterprise risks, yet insurance professionals often lack technical backgrounds while technical experts rarely speak the language of insurance. EC-Council identified a gap where professionals responsible for assessing, pricing and managing cyber and AI risk need greater technology fluency. The acquisition addresses this by combining EC-Council's technical depth with Cyber Insurance Academy's established insurance expertise and relationships, allowing the insurance industry to stay ahead of evolving technology risks including AI governance and autonomous systems.
THE DEAL
EC-Council did not disclose the acquisition price or financial terms in the announcement.
