WHAT HAPPENED
Upwind acquired Aegis, an Israeli cybersecurity startup founded nine months earlier, in a stock-based deal valued at tens of millions of dollars. Upwind established Upwind AI Labs for Cybersecurity as a new R&D operation combining Aegis's technology with Upwind's cloud security platform, initially with 12 employees and plans to expand to 35.
WHO IS INVOLVED
Upwind, an Israeli cloud infrastructure security unicorn valued at 3.8 billion dollars, acquired Aegis, founded by Unit 8200 veterans Omri Limor and Saar Ankonina. Limor and Ankonina will lead the new AI lab alongside Upwind CEO Amiram Shachar.
WHY IT MATTERS
As organizations deploy AI agents and workflows, new security threats emerge that existing tools do not address. The acquisition lets Upwind shift from protecting conventional cloud infrastructure to developing defenses against attacks targeting AI systems and autonomous agents.
